World champion set for surprise WEC debut

Porsche has confirmed that Pascal Wehrlein will compete in next month's Six Hours of Spa Francorchamps, ahead of his highly-anticipated 24 Hours of Le Mans debut in June. Wehrlein will partner Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor in the #6 Porsche 963, in what will be his debut in the World Endurance Championship.  The reigning Formula E champion has been preparing for his Le Mans debut for several months, which saw him make his 24 Hours of Daytona debut earlier this year.  The ex-F1 driver recently completed a private test in preparation for Le Mans at Aragon, as part of a Porsche training camp before heading to Miami where he claimed FE victory. "In preparation for the 24 Hours of Le Mans, it is obviously first class that I can celebrate my debut in the FIA WEC at Spa-Francorchamps and get to know the way Porsche Penske Motorsport works even earlier - every competitive kilometre with the Porsche 963 counts," said Wehrlein.  "With Kévin Estre and Laurens Vanthoor, I have two team-mates from whom I can learn a lot. I'm really looking forward to competing on such an iconic race track as the Belgian Grand Prix circuit."
