Marco Andretti returning to Indy with Andretti Global

Marco Andretti will attempt to take part in his 20th Indianapolis 500 as part of Andretti Global.

The son of former team owner Michael Andretti is set for another month of May spent in the No. 98 Honda and will join the team's full-season regulars in Colton Herta, Kyle Kirkwood and Marcus Ericsson for the NTT IndyCar Series' first Indy 500 using hybrid powertrains.

"He has a lot of experience at Indianapolis, and I think we all see benefits in running an extra car in Indy and the extra data, information, opportunity to try things, opportunities to work together," Andretti COO Rob Edwards told RACER.

Within the squad, Andretti Global has the 2022 Indy winner with Ericsson while he was at Chip Ganassi Racing, and the 2020 polesitter in Marco Andretti, who owns three third-place finishes in the race won by his grandfather Mario in 1969.

"I think the continuity with Marco, as opposed to introducing someone new in that fourth car, has a lot of benefits," Edwards added. "So with him, and giving him a good opportunity, and he in working together with the regular three drivers, should help us get the result that we obviously want to get there."
