2024 CHARLOTTE SMX #1 PRE-RACE REPORT: INJURED LIST, TV SCHEDULE & MORE
Since we’ve recently concluded the motocross season where Chase Sexton took home the championship, we move on to the first round of Supermotocross at ZMAX Dragway in Concord, NC. A lot of riders will be returning for SMX like Jett Lawrence, Cooper Webb in the 450 class, and Cameron McAdoo in the 250 class. Haiden Deegan is also returning as the reigning SMX champion and most recently the 2024 motocross 250 champion. Some great racing is ahead of us and we have all the updates listed below heading into the weekend.
FRESH START
Cameron McAdoo will be racing the three upcoming SMX rounds.
Cameron McAdoo will be returning to racing this weekend for the first round of the SMX Championship. Cameron was sidelined due to a shoulder injury which he had done at the Nashville Supercross and re-aggregated just a few days leading up to the Fox Raceway National. Cameron was in the title chase during the Supercross season and still tried to ride through the pain. He has now taken the entire summer off to regroup and prepare himself for the final three SMX races. Cameron has been back to riding for roughly the last month.
JETT LAWRENCE RETURNS
Jett Lawrence is the reigning 450 SMX Champion.
Jett Lawrence will also be returning to SMX after recovering from a broken bone in his thumb as well as a torn UCL. Jett Lawrence had a scary crash down one of the hills at the Hangtown National which had fans worried about his overall health. He did make a return however in the following weekends and was able to take the overalls. But during a mid-week practice crash prior to Red Bud, he would go down causing the injury to his thumb. Jett has since healed from the injury and will be making a triumphant return to the SMX championship, which he won last year.
SAVATGY AND TRIUMPH PART WAYS
Joey Savatgy on the spin bike prior to starting the season at the Fox Raceway National.
After a summer of racing with the team, Joey Savatgy and the Triumph team have decided to mutually part ways. This comes as Joey has pointed out of the 250 class meaning for Supercross he is only eligible to race in the 450 class. As the Triumph team does not yet have a 450 to race, they both decided it was best to part ways and not hold Joey back from opportunities in the future. This also brings an option for Triumph to pick up another 250 rider for the upcoming season.
Joey Savatgy says: “Firstly, I would like to thank Triumph Racing for giving me the opportunity to race for the team this year. We were all hoping the AMA rule would be amended to allow me to race 250SX next year, but unfortunately, this didn’t happen. Triumph knows how hard it was for me to sit out half the season this year, and they were nice enough to give me the option to be released early in order for me to race a full season next year. Thanks again to the whole team and I wish them all the best for the future.”
INJURY REPORT
DAXTON BENNICK – HEALTH ISSUES
Daxton Bennick has been dealing with some general health issues which will leave him sidelined for the start of the SMX Series.
DYLAN SCHWARTZ – WRIST
Dylan Schwartz has had multiple wrist surgeries throughout the year, and the latest led to an infection after Washougal. The healing process has taken longer than usual causing him to sit out SMX.
BENNY BLOSS – ARM/CLAVICLE
During a practice session during the Supercross series, Liqui Moly Beta Factory rider Benny Bloss sustained a fracture to his arm and collarbone. It is unclear of his return.
Team Manager Carlen Gardner Stated:“I am super bummed for Benny. He has had a fantastic season representing the new 450 RX and we are in such a good spot with him and the bike. This sport likes to test your mental strength every day and all we can take from this situation is that we know the level Benny can get back to and better when he heals up. He will undergo needed surgery and begin the road to recovery. He will be supporting his teammate Colt over the next two rounds as we are still in full swing to better ourselves each weekend”
GUILLEM FARRES – FEMUR
Guillem suffered a broken femur while training for the Daytona Supercross, he will be out for the foreseeable future.
Team Manager Nathan Ramsey states:“Guillem is one of the most liked riders in the industry that I have ever worked with. I am completely gutted that he had an unfortunate crash while testing at the Baker’s Factory. He is not only tough, but he is strong, and we will support him in every way to get him back at the races doing what he loves.”
AUSTIN FORKNER – BACK & SHOULDER
Austin had one of the scarier crashes we’ve seen in a while when he came up short entering a rhythm section which knocked his hand off the bars and sent him flying onto the infield concrete. As a result, he fractured his L3-L4 in his spine as well as a fractured scapula. Fortunately, his injuries did not require surgery, and he is expected to make a full recovery. Austin Forkner is still recovering and will be sitting out the SMX Finals.
JEREMY MARTIN – COMPLICATIONS FROM HIS CRASH EARLY IN SEASON
Jeremy Martin has decided not to ride the remainder of the 250 East Supercross season due to complications from his crash at round one in Detroit. When Jeremy began training for outdoor motocross he suffered another concussion which extended his recovery time and will miss all of the motocross rounds.
Jeremy Martin states: “I am incredibly disappointed to have to make this decision but when it comes to my health and my future, it is the right move. I struggled having to tell the team, but they were completely supportive knowing everything that I have gone through.”
MAX VOHLAND – FEMUR/HIP
