ACU Enduro Regulations revised for 2025
The ACU Enduro Commission has revised the Standing Enduro Regulations for 2025. There are significant changes in the Hare and Hounds Regulations and Sprint Enduros in terms of reducing the age groups of youth and junior riders to help the sport grow and develop future champions.
Organisers are advised to review the regulations in full to gain an understanding of the changes made. The revised regulations will be made available to affiliated organisers in Sport:80 under the 'resources' section.
Riders will be able to gain access to these regulations from early December within Sport:80 or from the ACU website. The key changes are:
Enduro Standing Regulations
Information has been re-ordered to provide a set of core regulations that apply to all types of enduro. These are supported by the following sub-regulations: 1) Timecard – Long Course Events 2) Timecard – Short Course Events 3) All Terrain Rallies 4) Hare and Hounds 5) Sprint 6) Extreme enduros.
ESR 1 eligibility
The text has been clarified that the minimum age of adults entering all types of enduro events is 16, but youth riders aged 14 and 15 can enter all enduro events in the adult classes subject to certain conditions. This regulation has been in place for 2024 with positive feedback received on the skill of some of these riders.
ESR 26 safety precautions
This has been enhanced to provide additional controls to manage spectator safety. Please read as there are various additions. A template guidance leaflet for spectators and support crews is provided for inclusion in event programmes.
Appendix B penalties
This has been separated into penalties applying to all events and those applying to timecard enduros. Some of the timecard penalties have been changed to align to FIM Regulations. For example, not starting the machine and crossing the 20m line within one minute of the start signal has been reduced from a 20-second penalty to a 10-second penalty.
Section 2 – Timecard Long Course Events
This is a new section but the core regulations for timecard events remain the same. A few minor amendments are indicated by a black line against the paragraph. For example, the positioning of white and yellow flags at time controls has been slightly revised. The importance of being fully legal for any road enduro event using the public highway has also been enhanced.
Section 3 – All Terrain Rallies
These regulations previously duplicated information within the Standing Enduro Regulations. As a result, information has been extracted and the revised regulations have been slimmed down to just the key differences to the enduro standing regs.
Section 4 – Short Course Enduros
There is no change to 2024 regulations.
Section 5 – Hare and Hounds
This is where a major step change has been made. The age range of youth and junior riders has been revised and is now more aligned to the age groups in motocross and grass track racing. Additional controls are in place such as enhanced proficiency tests and track marking. The change will hopefully bring some new faces into enduros. Many thanks to the organisers that helped provide supporting information to progress this change.
Section 5 – Sprint Enduros
These are new regulations based on information previously used in British Championship Sprint events. The age groups of youth and junior riders is the same as Hare and Hounds events so this should encourage youth into the sport. The penalties for riders that fail to start or complete a special test have been enhanced.
Section 6 – Extreme Events
These are a new set of regulations to cover Extreme and Arena-type enduro events. They are aligned to what some promoters and organisers have been applying under special regulations.
