After a year outside the paddock, the Van Venrooy Racing team were back in the MXGP paddock at the weekend for the opening round with focus being on the MX2 World Championship.

Cas Valk had an impressive ride at his first MX2 GP of the season as he makes the move up from the EMX250 championship where he consistently challenged for top positions His move to Van Venrooy KTM Racing was part of KTM’s broader strategy to nurture emerging talent through their KTM GP Academy, providing factory-supported equipment and support to promising riders.

After a solid qualifying race finishing eleventh, Valk had a good feeling going into race day. In the first moto with wet conditions, Valk took a good start and ended up taking a strong third-place finish.

In the second moto and conditions dry, Valk couldn’t replicate the good start and had to come back but he worked his way up to finish 13th, which, combined with his earlier performance, placed him sixth overall.

Valk’s performance in Argentina demonstrates his potential in the MX2 class, and he will likely be a rider to watch as the season progresses.

Cas Valk (sixth overall):

My first MX2 World Championship season started of good here in Argentina. On Saturday I got eleventh in the qualification race after I needed to come from the back. In race one, I had a good start and could get into third place and keep this for the whole moto so that was an amazing result. In race two, I had unfortunately had a really bad start and couldn't come any further than thirteenth. Overall, it was a great weekend to start my season – sixth overall on the day and seventh in the championship!
