#WHIPITWEDNESDAY

Rider: Max Anstie

Max Anstie competed internationally throughout his junior career, first competing in the FIM Motocross Junior World Championship in 2006 (in the 85cc class), finishing sixth overall. The following year, Anstie was able to finish in the runner-up spot in the same class, with two second places behind champion Ken Roczen. At the 2008 edition of the event he was able to win the opening race in the 85cc class, but did not finish the second race, to finish seventh overall with Jeffrey Herlings as the winner.

In 2009, Anstie made his professional motocross debut in the 250 class of the AMA Motocross Championship, riding a KTM. Riding in the first eight rounds of the championship he was able to record a best finish of sixth in race two at Red Bud. This effort was enough for Anstie to be signed by the DNA Shred Stix Star Racing Yamaha team for 2010, where he would make his professional supercross debut. Competing in the Lites West class, he recorded several top ten finished, including a fourth in San Diego. Max is still racing today and is currently the points leader in the 250 East Coast division.

R.J. HAMPSHIRE WINS BIG IN FRONT OF LOCAL CROWD

R.J. Hampshire doing the traditional burnout after his first Daytona win.

Rockstar Energy Husqvarna Factory Racing’s RJ Hampshire claimed an emphatic 250SX East Class victory in Round 8 of the 2025 AMA Supercross Championship at Daytona International Speedway tonight, with teammate Malcolm Stewart racing to sixth position in the 450SX Class.
Current 250SX West Champion Hampshire showed speed the moment he hit the famed Daytona circuit onboard his Husqvarna FC 250 Factory Edition, posting the fastest qualifying time on a rough and rutted surface heading into the night program.
R.J. grew up coming to the Daytona Supercross and now he stands on top of the podium.
That positive momentum would continue as the Florida native launched out of the gates for his Heat Race holeshot, holding firm at the front of the field and taking a convincing wire-to-wire win, setting up a strong gate position for the Main Event.
A top-five start for Hampshire in the final was quickly capitalized upon, as a series of decisive moves saw him take the lead in the opening laps. From there, despite a mid-race stoppage, he controlled the race from the front, taking a well-earned first-race win of the year. With his Daytona result, Hampshire moves to fourth place in the 2025 250SX East Class point standings.
R.J. Hampshire stated: “Coming in this year, I didn’t have much of an off-season. I knew I would get stronger as the season progressed, we worked hard with the team over the last two weeks and found a setting that made me really comfortable. I felt good as soon as my wheels hit the dirt here in Daytona, gelled with the track all day, and led 90 percent of the Main Event, which was awesome for us. We’re back on track and I’m stoked on the whole day and to finally add this trophy to the cabinet.”

WEBB EXPANDS CHAMPIONSHIP LEAD IN DAYTONA

Cooper Webb grabbed second in Daytona.

Monster Energy Yamaha Star Racing’s Cooper Webb continued to make championship gains, doubling his points lead with a runner-up finish at Round 8 of Monster Energy AMA Supercross at Daytona International Speedway. The two-time 450SX Champion’s sixth podium of 2025 has him heading into the season’s halfway point with a 10-point advantage.

Webb has been consistent week in and week out and extends his points lead.

Webb qualified fifth in the combined times and then, unfortunately, had a tip-over at the start of the heat race. Undeterred, the North Carolina rider made an impressive charge through the field to cross the line fourth. In the main event, he got a much better start in third and battled for position, making his way to the runner-up spot on Lap 10. As the clock ran down, the red plate holder closed the gap on the leader but made an error that stalled his advance. With not much time left, Webb rode on to finish comfortably in the runner-up spot, further expanding his championship lead.

Cooper Webb stated:It was a good night, points-wise. It was just a bit of a bummer because I felt like I could’ve had the win tonight and wasn’t able to. Other than that, it was a great night for the team and a great night for the points. We will keep the ball rolling.

MXA PHOTO TRIVIA

Who is this rider? The answer will be at the bottom of the article.

CAREER BEST FINISH FOR CHANCE HYMAS

Honda HRC Progressive rider Chance Hymas continued a steady positive trend this weekend at the legendary Daytona Supercross, notching a career-best fourth-place 250SX East result aboard his CRF250RWE. Held at Daytona International Speedway, the event featured its typical treacherous, evolving track conditions, and Hymas handled the challenge well.

Hymas ran inside the top three early on in the 250SX East main event before a midrace red flag led to a staggered restart. The Idaho native resumed in third and battled until the closing laps, ultimately finishing just off the podium on the deteriorating track.

Chance Hymas said:“Daytona was another step in the right direction. Qualifying was a little bit better; I ended up fifth overall. The track was pretty rutty and super gnarly, but honestly, I was having a good time on the bike; it was a lot of fun. My heat race was good—P3—just some little mistakes here and there, and same thing with the main. I got a good start in the main, but overall, I need to clean some stuff up; I was really close to a podium. With two laps to go, I made a couple of mistakes and dropped back to fourth. We’ll keep building from here and hopefully get back up front and on the box in Indy.”

MXA FANTASY LEAGUE – FMF GIVEAWAY: THE WINNER OF THE DAYTONA SUPERCROSS SCORED 261 POINTS

A great night of racing took place in Daytona on Saturday. Ken Roczen was the big winner grabbing his first Daytona overall win. Cooper Webb capitalized by finishing second and although he lost a few points to Roczen he gained on Chase Sexton who was right behind him in points. Ken Roczen had a dnf earlier in the season so he has quite a bit of ground to still make up but a win is a step in the right direction. In the 250 class, Max Anstie fell early and had to come from behind. Levi Kitchen was second in points and was looking to make up some valuable points after Max’s mistake but would end up crashing hard breaking his collarbone in the process, he would unfortunately end his championship run as he will be out for the remainder of the season.

One of the starts of the heat race. In the photo from left to right are Aaron Plessinger (7), Malcolm Stewart (27), Chase Sexton (4), Justin Barcia (51), and Coty Schock (37). The surprising bit of this photo is Coty Schock getting a great start even though he was on a 250 in the 450 class.

This week the picks were very good. In first Cooper Webb was chosen to take the win in the race and he ended up second giving 23 fantasy points. In second was Chase Sexton who ended up fifth giving 18 fantasy points. In third picked was Ken Roczen and he ended up taking the win giving 26 fantasy points. MXA PHOTO OF THE WEEK

Riders like Ken Roczen who have a sponsorship relationship with a company like RedBull are able to get brand new painted helmets nearly every weekend. Ken’s Helmet for Daytona was their simple design but pretty cool how his name is painted on the back.

CLASSIC MXA PHOTO

Sometimes it’s cool to look back at some of the old MXA covers. In this photo, Guy Cooper rips through a turn to grab a classic cover photo in 1990.

MXA Photo Trivia Answer: Larry Brooks racing in the 125cc class back in 1996. Larry is still heavily involved within the industry as the team manager for Progressive Suzuki and Ken Roczen.
