Stéphane Peterhansel: Turning back the time at FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy Copy

With the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy (EVT) in full swing this week in Camerino, Italy, it's great to see so many enduro greats competing – none more so than France's Stéphane Peterhansel.

A legend of enduro and rally, the fourteen-time Dakar Rally champion makes it his mission to attend the FIM EVT whenever he can.

Swapping his Team Audi Sport car for his beloved, forty-three-year-old Yamaha IT 250, the fifty-nine-year-old is enjoying his time in Camerino, while also showing that he's just as fast as ever on two wheels.

"Unfortunately, I missed the last two years because it is not always possible for me to come," told Peterhansel. "But this year I had more freedom in my racing schedule, so I made it a priority to be here.

"For me, this is racing without pressure. During my career, I always had pressure to win when I raced, but that's not the case here."

Riding in the FIM Vintage Silver Vase Team, alongside Swiss friends Paolo Di Mauro (SWM) and Christophe Germanier (Puch Frigeri), they sit inside the top ten at the end of day three, while Peterhansel himself has proved outright fastest.

With the FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy featuring a new scoring system for 2024, where the ages of both rider and machinery are also factored into the results, Peterhansel feels this is a good direction for the event to go in.

"It's not normal, or in the spirit of the race, for the overall winner of the race to be the youngest or on the most modern machine. For sure, the changes they have made this year look to go in a good way.

"Of course, we will know better at the end of the race how it has worked out, and if small adjustments need to be made, but so far it looks a good direction."

The FIM Enduro Vintage Trophy continues to take place over the coming days in Camerino, Italy ending on 7 September.
