The inaugural Arenacross World Tour burst into life this past weekend at the BP Pulse Arena in Birmingham and as always with Arenacross it was jammed pack with excitement and awesome racing across the five classes as the race to Abu Dhabi got underway.
In the pro ranks it was the Spaniard, Jorge Zaragoza, who took the win on the Stark Future Racing machine with an immaculate performance leading most of the race and withstanding the late pressure from DRT / Kawasaki UK's Cedric Soubeyras, who looked great after recently just coming back from injury. Taking third on the night was Dean Wilson on the Armor Vision / St.Blazey Honda who was making his Arenacross debut in the U.K, much to the delight of the British fans who came out to witness Dean's first competitive ride in a championship on U.K soil since he emigrated to Canada and then onto America as a kid.
With his third-place finish in the final, Wilson took control of the ACU Arenacross British championship, which is only open to British passport holders or British based riders. The very first Arenacross champion from back in 2013, Adam Chatfield, proved he's still got something left in the tank to grab second place ahead of Stark Future Racing's Eddie Wade.
It wasn't just the pros who put on an awesome display of skill and commitment, as the three youth classes and the Amateurs delivered yet again and held up their side of the bargain with some intense and exciting racing of their own. In the AX Mini's it was Mason Staddon who took the win ahead of Preston Killoran, with Mason Shields rounding off the podium. The Supermini class was also a great watch with George Cherry getting it done, fending off John Slade who was the leading 'small wheeled' racer in second, coming in third was Elvis Totney. Issac Ash made a triumphant return to Arenacross after injury last year to take the win in the AX Futures. The former Supermini champion took the win ahead of the current Supermini champion, Harry Lee, who has now moved up to the Futures class. Third place went to Zane Stephens, another AX regular moving up to the Futures for 2025. In the Amateur class it was a polished performance from Raife Broadley who methodically worked his way to the front from a mid-pack start to take the win. Louis Brookes impressed on his Arenacross debut to take second ahead of Adam Wells who was happy to put it on the box at his local race.
Up next is the OVO Arena, Wembley on Saturday 18th January which will host round two of the ACU Arenacross British championship where the action and excitement will continue. For more information on Arenacross World Tour head to www.axworldtour.com
