Chase Briscoe's Daytona penalty overturned
Yesterday at 02:49 PM
The National Motorsports Appeals Panel today heard and considered an appeal of an L2 penalty issued on Feb. 19, 2025 to driver Chase Briscoe, crew chief James Small and owner Joe Gibbs in the NASCAR Cup Series.
The penalty concerns the following sections of the 2025 NASCAR Rule Book for the owner and driver: Sections 14.1.C,D,S Overall Assembled Vehicle Rules and 14.5.8.A Spoiler. The penalty issued was a four-race suspension to the crew chief; $100,000 fine to the owner; and the loss of 100 championship points and 10 Playoff Points to the owner and driver.
Upon hearing the testimony, the decisions of the National Motorsports Appeals Panel are:
- That the Appellants did not violate the Rule(s) set forth in the Penalty Notice.
In reaching the above decision, the panel provided the following explanation: "The panel believes that the elongation of some of the holes on the number 19 Cup car spoiler base is caused by the process of attaching that specific spoiler base to the rear deck and not modification of the single source part."
The Appeals Panel members for this hearing:
