Cup teams have already run this tire set-up at Las Vegas and Homestead this season . . . they are also scheduled to run this set-up at Texas and Kansas in May . . . for this weekend, all NASCAR tires will carry a special sidewall design featuring the Goodyear Blimp, which will celebrate its 100th anniversary later this spring . . . with this 18-inch tire, and its lower profile sidewall, NASCAR Cup cars do not run inner liners in any of their tires.
Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway — Goodyear back for fifth year as Cup race entitlement sponsor: Goodyear returns for the fifth straight year as entitlement sponsor of the spring throwback race at Darlington Raceway — the Goodyear 400 . . . Goodyear is the longest-running continuous partner in NASCAR history and has been the exclusive tire supplier to the sanctioning body‘s top three national divisions since 1997 . . . Goodyear has a rich history at Darlington, conducting its first official NASCAR tire tests at the track in 1954 and earning its first NASCAR victory in the 1959 Southern 500 with driver Jim Reed.
Goodyear Blimp — Blimp covering Darlington, just short of program‘s 100th anniversary: "Wingfoot Two" will be in the air over Darlington Raceway for the entire weekend . . . this airship is based out of Pompano Beach, Fla. . . . Wingfoot Two will provide aerial coverage for the NASCAR Xfinity race on The CW on Saturday and the Goodyear 400 NASCAR Cup race on Fox Sports on Sunday . . . this June 3 will mark the 100th anniversary of the Goodyear Blimp . . . Goodyear will celebrate this milestone with a year-long campaign, including aerial presence at the biggest moments in sports.
Goodyear quote — Stu Grant, Goodyear‘s general manager of global race tires: "This is one of the more exciting weekends of the NASCAR season for us at Goodyear. Not only is it 'Throwback Weekend‘ for the sport, we also have the Goodyear 400 Cup race on Sunday. Goodyear and Darlington both have rich histories in NASCAR, and we are very proud of that as a company. On the track, Darlington is a high tire wear track so tire management will be important for the drivers, and the pit crews will have a lot to say about how their teams perform with four-tire stops all day long."
