Ty Gibbs hit Justin Haley under caution during the NASCAR race at Bowman Gray Stadium

When NASCAR rolled into the 1/4-mile bullring of Bowman Gray Stadium, everyone expected drama. And, particularly in the last chance qualifier, that’s what happened.

Ty Gibbs and Justin Haley were in a heated battle for position. Only the top two finishers from that race would advance into the main event and the bumpers were involved.

Haley tagged Gibbs int he left rear. Gibbs spins across the track and brought out a yellow flag.

Under caution, Gibbs pulled alongside Haley’s machine. He turned into him with the intent to door him.

Instead, Gibbs left front tire made contact with the right front tire of Haley. This sent Gibbs skyward with three of the four wheels completely off the ground.

The car came slamming back to Earth. Gibbs then drove his car to the pit area for repairs before returning to the race.

NASCAR comments on the incident with Ty Gibbs

"We know it's a tough place, and there's gonna be some aggression and some good short-track racing, which is what we wanted,” Brad Moran stated via SiriusXM NASCAR Radio.

“But I'll be having a discussion with Ty before we go on the track in Daytona and just get his take on what happened and make sure we're clear on what we need from that point moving forward."

NASCAR generally releases any possible penalties on Tuesday or Wednesday after an event. Gibbs has not been issued a penalty.
