NASCAR Cup Series driver made his sprint car debut and he went off on the wrecker

On Saturday night, the High Limit Series opened their 2025 season. The half-mile of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway Dirt Track hosted the $25,000 to win event during NASCAR weekend.

NASCAR Cup Series drivers Kyle Larson and Ty Gibbs were in the show. They’re both pulling double-duty as they races on Saturday night on the dirt and they’ll then race the NASCAR event on Sunday.

For Ty Gibbs, he hasn’t raced in a dirt sprint car. He’s driven one but on Saturday night, he ran his first official event.

Gibbs raced his way into the show through the heat races.

“I just had a really good time out there,” Gibbs told FloRacing after locking himself into a starting position for the main event.

“My car is a lot better than the driver is. All the haters, I feel like if they knew me, they’d really like me. That’s part of of it and I know I’m going to have that.”

He added, “I’m really having fun and hopefully I can do a good job tonight.”

On lap 1, Gibbs made contact with the right rear of Stirling Cling entering turn three. Gibbs got sideways and he jumped the cushion.

The car grabbed the loose dirt and sent him into a barrel roll. He flipped multiple times and bounced off the catchfence.

The car came to a rest on all four mangled wheels. The safety team arrived at the scene quickly and Gibbs climbed out under his own power.

“I think he was trying to stay off of Sterling Cling and he just got himself way high into the loose stuff,” Kyle Busch stated. “They’re top heavy, they’re going to roll.”

Gibbs pilots the No. 54 in the NASCAR Cup Series. He drives for his grandfather, Joe Gibbs. The team owner previously had a rule that drivers on his NASCAR roster couldn’t drive in dirt races.

For the 2025 season, Joe Gibbs has dropped that rule for his drivers. That’s allowed his grandson, Christopher Bell and Chase Briscoe to go dirt racing.

NASCAR Cup Series drivers are set for the green flag on the 1.5-mile pavement oval on Sunday afternoon.
