After a difficult Portimao Test, Axel Bassani is uncertain of his true potential for the Portimao WorldSBK Round.
The 2025 World Superbike Championship returns this weekend in Portimao after a month's break since the season opener in Phillip Island.
During this time the World Superbike riders have participated in a two-day test at Portimao, but have not raced since the 23rd of February.
The new bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team project got off to a solid start in Australia with Axel Bassani finishing ninth, ninth and tenth in the three races.
But for the second round, Bassani is not so optimistic after the recent Portimao Test. The Italian struggled for feeling and pace around the Portuguese circuit and does not know what to expect from this weekend's races.
"Our start to the season in Australia was really quite good, with every result inside the top ten," Bassani commented.
"On a new circuit for the first time with this bike, I think we have to be positive and happy about that.
"For the Portimao race weekend, I don't know after we had the test there. I finished with not a really good feeling and I did not feel really fast, so I am not sure what we can expect from the Portimao race weekend.
"But, for sure we have some data to try to improve the bike set-up. Now the team and I have to work to try to put on track the best solution. Like always, we will try our best."
Despite Bassani's confusion ahead of this weekend's track action his teammate, Alex Lowes, is eager to get back underway and has laid out a new goal for the Portimao World Superbike Round.
