Alex Lowes took Bimota to an eighth-place finish on their return to World Superbikes.
Alex Lowes ended his first race with the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team in eighth place. From the outside, the result seems like a disappointment for the KB998 Rimini.
However, the British rider has a different perspective from others and is happy with how he did in Race One at Phillip Island.
"I am happier than other people, we did a good job last year so I think the expectations were higher," Lowes told WorldSBK.com
"But it is the first time that we are trying the bike in these extremely hot conditions. We have no information, we are learning, we are changing the bike for the race, and we have taken a lot of data.
"To arrive with a brand-new bike and to fight with [Andrea] Locatelli and be not too far from the second group of Ducati's we cannot be too disappointed. They have some big advantages here and we have to keep working with what we have got.
"I am happy with the race it went more or less how I expected and we have two more races tomorrow to try and do a bit better."
Lowes went on to state that he is 'proud' of the bimota by Kawasaki Racing Team after Saturday's race. The team have shown that they can be competitive with their new bike but also knows that they 'need to improve'.
"I am really proud. I seem to look at the situation differently to most people, it is not an easy job. There are other manufacturers that have been working harder for a longer period of time.
"Axel [Bassani] was first or second in most of the winter tests so I think we are expecting too much. But the reality is the other guys are a lot more ready than us, everything [for us] is brand new.
"I knew it was not going to be easy, I am happy with the job we have done, and I am sure we can do better. We have to be happy with the starting point because it is what it is, and we have to try and improve for the next races."
