Jonathan Rea has 'one little box ticked in a long list' ahead of the 2025 season

After a difficult 2024 World Superbike campaign Jonathan Rea has a lot of work to do ahead of the 2025 season.
The 2025 Jerez World Superbike Test did not take place under the best conditions. However, six-time World Superbike Champion, Jonathan Rea, put in the work across the two days.
On the first day in the dry conditions, Rea got down to business and worked on his feeling with his Yamaha R1. However, his true one-lap pace is still a mystery as he did not commit to any time attacks throughout the test.
The second day featured a wet track and heavy rain, conditions that Rea braved and seemingly enjoyed. The Northern Irishman ended day two as the fastest rider as he was first and second on the timesheets.
"It has been positive, yesterday I got off to a really good start, I felt good with my Yamaha R1 from the first laps," Rea told WorldSBK.com.
"Step by step I improved, my pace was ok, and we did not work on any time attacks, we just worked through the program.
"I woke up today and the weather was bad obviously. We only managed wet laps today which was good, normally with the regulations for testing I don't do much wet riding. I enjoyed just riding around and familiarising myself with the bike more in the wet weather.
"We made some good, positive changes so big thanks to the crew for their effort. It was two days of good information and now we move to Portugal in quick succession. We will try to put some of that to good use and get ready for Australia."
One of the big things in Rea's camp ahead of the 2025 season is the arrival of his new crew chief. Oriol Pallares replaced Andrew Pitt in the Pata Yamaha garage and began his new role back in November.
Despite only two tests together the new rider and crew chief relationship seems to be off to a good start.
"It's been a super easy transition, to be honest," Rea stated. "He has the respect of the team, he did such a good job in November with the test plan that he received a round of applause from the crew and now he's just down to business really.
"He's a guy I trust a lot, he has incredible experience, it's one little box ticked in a long list that we have to check off before the season starts."
