Heading into his third year in World Superbikes Remy Gardner has a 'good feeling' from his Yamaha R1 after the opening day of testing in Portimao.
GYTR GRT Yamaha WorldSBK rider, Remy Gardner, ended the first day of the Portimao Test in fourth place.
The Japanese manufacturer had a difficult 2024 season and Gardner finished last season in tenth place. 2025 will be the Australian's third year in the World Superbike Championship and he is ready to get the season underway at Phillip Island.
"It's been a good day. Unfortunately, we didn't get the whole day," Gardner explained after day one of the Portimao Test.
"It was raining in the morning, and it took a while to dry out. It didn't dry out completely in the end, we had some rivers across the track. It was quite sketchy conditions I didn't push 100% today just to avoid some crashes on the wet patches.
"Even so, we could work in the dry corners and work with some new test items we had that seemed to give me a good feeling."
Yamaha had delivered some new items for the Yamaha riders to test ahead of the 2025 season. Gardner had access to these items last week at the Jerez Test but was able to double-check them this week in Portugal.
"It was the same items as Jerez," Gardner stated.
"We did some back-to-back testing, and, for me, we confirmed the feeling. Maybe they made even more of a difference here, so it's been a positive day.
"If it rains tomorrow, we'll do a few laps. Not too many but we'll do some just to confirm that we feelings we had in the last two years and see if the new items are helping us in the rain which we hope and expect."
