The MGM Bonovo Racing Team had a tough outing at the Portuguese World Superbike Round.

Scott Redding's time with the MGM Bonovo Racing Ducati squad started off on a positive note. However, the second round of the World Superbike Championship was the polar opposite for Redding and the German team.

After finishing fifth, fourth and fourth at Phillip Island, Redding failed to finish Race One and then finished 15th in the Superpole Race and Race Two at Portimao.

"We had a pretty difficult weekend overall," Redding said after the weekend.

"We got a bit lucky in some situations. But on Sunday, we struggled a bit. I don't know if it was the bike or the tire, but after about three to five laps, I just lost grip on the rear wheel.

"We need to understand why and how that happened and then reassess for Assen because the weekend was a bit of a disaster."

MGM Bonovo Racing Team Owner Michael Galinski was also disappointed with the team's Portuguese World Superbike Round.

"After the truly first-class start in Australia, we as a team have already suffered a serious setback," Galinski stated.

"We weren't present at the test here two weeks ago, so we were actually optimistic that everything was going in the right direction with eighth place in free practice.

"But to be honest, we were never able to prepare the bike in a way that would allow Scott to find the right feel. He absolutely needs a feel for the front wheel, and that's not always easy to achieve.

"Others place more emphasis on rear grip or other things, but Scott needs a controlled front end, and when he has that, he's fast."
