Australia’s number one car website recently published its list of best electric vehicles for 2024. A look at the publication’s rankings shows that even with more competition in the market, the Tesla Model Y and Model 3 are still standouts in their class.

As noted by Carsales.com.au, electric vehicle sales in Australia are still growing, even if the EV market’s growth itself has somewhat slowed down. And with more electric vehicles now available in the Australian market, customers are presented with a lot of options. It is then quite impressive to see the Model Y and Model 3, both of which are veterans of the EV sector, still performing well.

The Tesla Model Y has been a mainstay of Australia’s electric vehicle market, but it continues to be a standout. As per the publication, a lot of this staying power is partly due to the fact that the Model Y is a great package overall. Carsales.com.au praised the Model Y’s interior in particular, as well as its impressive cargo and passenger space. The vehicle’s powertrain also earned praise for its fun driving dynamics.

Overall, its bang-for-the-buck nature, coupled with its great combination of performance, safety, and tech features, makes the Model Y—particularly its Rear Wheel Drive (RWD) variant–the publication’s “Best Family EV” of 2024.

Accompanying the Model Y was the reengineered Model 3 sedan, which was given the “Best City EV” of 2024 award. As per Carsales.com.au, the Model 3 was the car that changed the electric vehicle world when its first iteration was released. But while the bar was very high for the reengineered Tesla Model 3, the vehicle actually met, if not exceeded, expectations.

The publication praised the re-engineered Model 3 for its well-presented cabin and impressive features, class-leading tech and infotainment system, and polished road manners. Similar to the Model Y, the Australian publication also noted that the reengineered Model 3’s base Rear Wheel Drive version was its top pick, thanks to the vehicle’s very reasonable price.
