Tesla has shared an update on the growth and performance of the Supercharger Network in the third quarter of 2024. The electric vehicle maker posted the information on its official Tesla Charging account on social media platform X.

As per the Tesla Charging account, the Supercharger Network saw substantial growth in Q3 2024. During the third quarter, Tesla opened an additional 2,800 Supercharger stalls, representing a year-over-year network growth of 23%. With these results, industry watchers estimate that Tesla has built almost 62,400 Superchargers worldwide so far.

The Tesla Supercharger Network also delivered 1.4 TWh of energy during the third quarter, a 27% year-over-year growth. This enabled Tesla owners to save over 150 million gallons of gasoline, offsetting more than 3 billion pounds of CO2.

The growth of the Supercharger Network received praise from Max de Zegher, Tesla's Director of Charging for North America, Europe, Middle East, & Africa, and the Asia Pacific region. As per the executive, he is extremely "Impressed by what the hyper-focused team is pulling off."

Overall, it would appear that CEO Elon Musk's previous assurances about the Supercharger Network are accurate. Earlier this year, there was notable panic in the EV community when reports emerged stating that Musk had laid off the majority of the Supercharger team. Even longtime Tesla watchers expressed their strong disapproval of Musk’s decision, considering that the Supercharger Network is widely considered one of Tesla’s biggest strengths.

In a post on X, Musk assured the electric vehicle community that Tesla was still planning to grow the Supercharger Network. However, the company would be focusing on achieving 100% uptime and the expansion of existing Supercharger locations worldwide. "Tesla still plans to grow the Supercharger network, just at a slower pace for new locations and more focus on 100% uptime and expansion of existing locations," Musk wrote in his post.
