One thing Honda and Toyota have in common is the desire to keep the manual transmission alive in the era of EVs. They're just going about it in very different ways. A new report from The Drive says that Honda has built a manual transmission for EVs, complete with a clutch pedal, and it's currently under testing. In addition, Honda is working on feeding sounds based on some of its most iconic machines (and not just cars) into the cabins of future EVs, and it wants to create the levels of feel and engagement that its best combustion models are known for, although the path to get there is winding. It's not simply a case of broadly copying the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and calling it a day.
