Netflix have announced when the new season of Formula 1: Drive to Survive will be released – and fans haven’t got long to wait.
First aired in 2019, Drive to Survive offers a behind the scenes look at the world’s fastest motorsport with this seventh series covering the action-packed 2024 season.
The series has been credited with growing F1’s popularity to unprecedented levels and though it has received criticism – not least from Max Verstappen – it remains a fascinating watch.
Ahead of its release, we take a look at some of the storylines F1 Drive to Survive season seven might cover:
When is F1 Drive to Survive season 7 out on Netflix?
The seventh season of Drive to Survive will drop on Netflix on Friday, March 7 – exactly a week before the opening race of 2025 in Australia.
That gives you plenty of time to catch up on seasons 1-6 which are streaming now.
A trailer for the series is expected in the next few weeks.
What storylines can we expect from F1 Drive to Survive season 7?
Lewis Hamilton signs for Ferrari
The last season of DTS showed Sir Lewis Hamilton’s thought process behind signing a contract extension with Mercedes… which was all the more hilarious as it aired just after it was announced that Hamilton was jumping ship to Ferrari.
The seven-time champion has now completed that move and this new season will no doubt offer some insight into why he changed his mind and the ramifications it had for the rest of the grid.
Expect an episode dedicated to how Carlos Sainz reacted to finding out Ferrari were dumping him and why Mercedes chose teenage rookie Kimi Antonelli to replace Hamilton.
The Christian Horner saga
The F1 world was thrown into turmoil this time last year when allegations of inappropriate behaviour were made against Red Bull boss Christian Horner.
Horner, husband of Spice Girl Geri Halliwell, was cleared following an investigation but the saga rumbled on for many months.
It proved to be the start of a tumultuous year for Red Bull as while Max Verstappen won a fourth-straight title, the team finished third in the constructors’ championship, sacked driver Sergio Perez and lost design genius Adrian Newey to Aston Martin.
DTS executive producer James Gay-Rees revealed last year that season seven will cover the saga in some capacity.
Daniel Ricciardo’s brutal sacking
There was plenty of hiring and firing on the F1 grid in 2024 and DTS will no doubt focus on Daniel Ricciardo’s exit from RB given the Aussie’s popularity with Netflix viewers.
Guenther Steiner has been the face – and very sweary voice – of DTS since its debut, so there was much sadness when he left his role as Haas boss.
The Italian confirmed to Metro last year that he has filmed several scenes for the new season.
There may also be an episode dedicated to Logan Sargeant who was effectively sacked twice by Williams, the second time just days after surviving a fiery crash at the Dutch Grand Prix.
