The fault could cause a short circuit in the vehicle’s battery and lead to a vehicle fire, according to the recall notice.
Porsche Australia has recalled 1405 examples of its 2019-2024 Porsche Taycan, citing a potential fault with the cell modules in the vehicle’s high-voltage battery.
The affected vehicles are stamped 2019 to 2024 models.
The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: "Due to a manufacturing issue, the cell modules installed in the high voltage battery may be defective. A short circuit could cause a thermal overload and result in a vehicle fire over time.
"A vehicle fire could increase the risk of injury or death to vehicle occupants, other road users and bystanders, and/or damage to property."
Two separate recalls were issued for the affected Taycans, with 1095 examples of the 2019-2023 electric vehicle (EVs) and 310 units of the 2019-2024 car identified.
According to the ACCC, Porsche has the ability to detect potential problems via software, and will contact affected owners.
Porsche is also asking the 310 owners of the 2019-2024 affected cars to not charge their cars above 80 per cent capacity.
