The fault could cause an increase in braking distance when the Remote Smart Parking Assist function is in use, according to the recall notice.

Kia Australia has recalled 602 dual-motor examples of its 2023-2024 Kia EV9, citing a potential software fault with the vehicle’s Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system.

The recall notice, lodged with the Department of Infrastructure, says: “Due to a software issue, the Integrated Electronic Brake (IEB) system may not operate as intended.

“Therefore, a higher braking force may be required when using the Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) key function resulting in increased braking distance.

“A reduction in braking performance could increase the risk of an accident resulting in injury to vehicle occupants, pedestrians, and other road users.”
