The plucky Russian off-roader has taken a step into the light by offering an option of LED running lamps.
What's a few decades of automotive technology between friends, especially when the vehicle in question is knocking on the door of its 50thbirthday?
The Lada Niva is now available with optional LED running lamps, that increase the brightness of the existing lamps by 50 per cent and the parking lights (that still use a 4W filament bulb) by 350 per cent.
First released in 1977, the Russian 4X4 has remained largely unchanged for its entire production life, but the inclusion of LED lighting doesn't quite propel it into the modern age. The first car to use LED running lamps was the 2004 Audi A8, where the first complete LED headlamp unit was launched in the 2006 Lexus LS600h.
Today, most cars use LED lighting technology due to its reliability, low energy use and flexible design and implementation potential.
Buyers of the Lada Niva Legend (priced from RUB981,000 or $AU16,000) can option the new LED lamps for RUB7000 or $AU115 on all models except the basic 'Classic' trim.
Additionally, a new paint colour is available for 2024 Niva buyers for RUB15,000 ($AU250) extra.
The gold-brown metallic finish is called 'Coriander' and is a colour already offered on the Lada Granta sedan. We'd like to note that if the coriander in your fridge is a golden-brown colour, rather than green, you should probably throw it out.
