Australia has a new most affordable electric car – again. The base-model MG 4 has been slashed to $30,990 drive-away until November, alongside discounts for other models.

The title of the most affordable new electric car in Australia has changed hands yet again with discounts of up to $10,425 on the 2024 MG 4 hatch.

Until 31 October 2024, the entry-level MG 4 Excite 51 will be priced from $30,990 drive-away nationwide – a saving of $8262 to $10,425, depending on the state of registration.

It claims the title of the cheapest new electric car from the MG ZS EV Excite SUV, which in August had its price slashed to $34,990 drive-away.

The MG 4 Excite 51 is now about $4000 to $5500 cheaper than a base-model Toyota Corolla Hybrid hatch – depending on where it is registered – and costs in line with a middle-of-the-range Kia Cerato petrol hatch.

Other models in the MG 4 line-up are being offered with ‘factory bonuses’ – a manufacturer-funded discount on the final drive-away price – of $8000 on Model Year 2023 (MY23) stock, and $5000 for MY24 builds.

As with the $30,990 drive-away offer for the base model, the factory bonuses on Excite 64, Essence 64, Long Range 77 and XPower grades run until 31 October.

The most expensive MG 4 variant in the dearest state for new-vehicle registration – an XPower in Western Australia – is now $53,282 drive-away for MY23 stock, compared to a $59,990 drive-away nationwide price two months ago.

The discount is the fifth change to MG 4 prices so far this year, and follows seven weeks after nationwide drive-away prices across the range – rather than on one model as a special offer – were dropped.

New MG cars in Australia are now covered by a 10-year/250,000km vehicle warranty, the longest on the market.

"We know that people may have been considering an EV but potentially have held off due to the cost now with this limited-time offer we're giving everyone the opportunity to own an MG 4,” Giles Belcher, MG Motor Australia chief commercial officer said in a media statement.
