2025 Audi Q5 Sportback revealed, likely for Australia

Audi has squished the roof on its latest Q5 mid-size SUV for a new Sportback variant, with sleeker looks and a slightly smaller boot.
The 2025 Audi Q5 luxury SUV has gained a sportier, more streamlined Sportback variant, expected in Australian showrooms after the regular version late next year.
The second generation of the Q5 Sportback shares the more practical Audi body’s underpinnings, interior and much of its bodywork, but adds a sloping roofline for a unique look and less luggage space.
Design changes appear to be limited to the new rear roofline – available with roof rails and OLED tail-lights – as the front end, rear bumper, and front doors all look to be shared with the standard Q5.
Boot space in the Q5 Sportback is quoted as 515L behind the rear seats, or 1415L with them folded – compared to 520L and 1473L in the regular Q5.
Meanwhile, the SQ5 Sportback claims 470L behind the rear seats, or 1388L with them folded. A towing capacity of up to 2400kg is also listed.
Q5 Sportbacks sold in Europe are fitted as standard with an ‘Advanced’ styling pack optional on the Q5 wagon, with silver accents, a black rear diffuser and 18-inch alloys.
An S Line package – available with aluminium-look or black accents – is available as an option overseas, but could be standard in Australia.
Inside, the Sportback shares the standard model’s interior, with up to three screens – an 11.9-inch instrument cluster, a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen, and another 10.9-inch touchscreen for the front passenger.
Buyers can choose from ‘Cascade’ synthetic or Dinamica microfibre upholstery on the seats, both of which are “primarily made from recycled polyester,” Audi says.
The engine range is also shared, with a choice of 150kW/340Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol four-cylinder and 150kW/400Nm 2.0-litre turbo-diesel four-cylinder engines in the Q5, and a 270kW/550Nm 3.0-litre single-turbo petrol V6 in the SQ5.
All-wheel drive is standard in all but the petrol – where it is optional – and the entire range is matched with a seven-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
Also standard across the range is new ‘mild-hybrid plus’ technology which, unlike most mild-hybrids, uses an 18kW electric motor and 1.7kWh battery capable of driving the wheels on electric power alone at parking speeds.
Plug-in hybrid variants are due at a later date.
The 2025 Audi Q5 Sportback and 2025 Audi SQ5 Sportback are due in European showrooms this December. Australian arrival timing is yet to be confirmed.
