Audi’s Tesla Model Y-sized electric car is due in Australia early next year in a choice of three model grades, including the brand’s second-ever rear-wheel-drive SUV.

The 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron will be the second rear-wheel-drive SUV ever sold by the German premium brand in Australia – alongside high-performance all-wheel-drive versions – when it arrives next year.

Audi Australia has confirmed it will offer three versions of the Q6 e-tron, a mid-size electric SUV aimed at the BMW iX3 – and similarly sized to the top-selling Tesla Model Y.

The longest-range version could offer a driving range rating close to, or in excess of 600km, while the flagship SQ6 is claimed to be capable of 0-100km/h in 4.3 seconds.

Prices are yet to be announced, but the Q6 e-tron is likely to split the difference between the smaller Q4 e-tron ($84,900 plus on-road costs) and larger Q8 e-tron ($139,984 plus on-roads).

It would suggest a starting price of about $110,000 before on-road costs.

Three models will be available: a rear-wheel-drive Q6 e-tron Performance, all-wheel-drive Q6 e-tron quattro, and top-of-the-range SQ6 e-tron quattro.

The entry version will follow the Q4 e-tron as only the second rear-wheel-drive SUV ever sold by Audi in Australia.

Standard on all Q6 models in Australia at launch a 10.9-inch touchscreen ahead of the front passenger – in addition to the main infotainment display – plus matrix LED headlights.

SQ6 models will add adaptive air suspension and OLED tail-lights, which can change their signatures and flash warning symbols to cars behind under heavy braking.

Powering the Q6 e-tron Performance is a 240kW electric motor on the rear axle, and a battery with a 94.9kWh usable capacity rated for up to 641km of driving range in European WLTP lab testing.

However, Australian models may quote a lower driving range as the 641km claim is achieved with smaller wheels and fewer luxury options than the high specification expected to be offered locally.

With 21-inch wheels fitted – and option boxes ticked – the Performance’s WLTP range drops to about 585km.

The middle-of-the-range Q6 e-tron quattro adds a front electric motor to produce 285kW combined, and a quoted 0-100km/h acceleration time of 5.9 seconds, while the WLTP driving range is rated at up to 625km from the same 94.9kWh battery.

The flagship SQ6 e-tron quattro increases power to 380kW in its ‘boost’ mode, cuts the 0-100km/h claim to 4.3 seconds, and lists a lab-tested WLTP driving range of up to 598km, before options and the largest wheels are fitted.
