BYD lowers pricing for its Atto 3 electric SUV with prices now starting under $40,000 before on-road costs for the first time.

  • 2025 BYD Atto 3 pricing and specifications
  • New Essential grade added
  • Prices down across the board
  • Priced from $39,990 before on-road costs

BYD has reshuffled its 2025 Atto 3 line-up, bringing pricing down and tweaking equipment amid Australia's quickly-changing EV landscape.

As previously reported, last year's Atto 3 Standard has been replaced with the Essential, lowering the point of entry to BYD's electric SUV from $44,990 before on-road costs to $39,990.

The top-spec Premium, which carry's over from last year, also receives a $2509 price cut and slots in where the Standard was positioned at $44,990.

This puts further distance between the BYD Atto 3 and compatriot rivals like the XPeng G6 (from $54,800) and Chery Omoda E5 (from $42,990), as well as the Hyundai Kona Electric (from $54,000) and Renault Megane E-Tech (from $54,990)

Despite the Atto 3 price reductions, both versions still feature a single electric motor that drives 150kW/310Nm to the front wheels.

Oddly, BYD claims the Essential is slower in the zero-to-100km/h spring than the Premium (7.9 seconds versus 7.3s) even though the former is lighter than the latter (1680kg versus 1750kg).

Where the Essential and Premium also differ is in battery size, with the more affordable Atto 3 equipped with a 49.92kWh unit and the flagship with a 60.58kWh battery.

This means the Essential's driving range is a WLTP-rated 345km, while the Premium will do 420km before need a recharge.

The flagship Atto 3 also benefits from fast maximum charging capabilities, able to take 88kW through its CCS 2 DC charging port compared to a 70kW peak in the Essential, however both versions are equipped with vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality.

The 2025 version of the Atto 3 has also had its maximum unbraked towing capacity uprated by 50kg to a 750kg total, while the braked towing capacity number stays static at 750kg.

Standard equipment includes 17-inch alloy wheels, heated and power-adjustable side mirrors, a 5.0-inch digital instrument panel, synthetic leather seat upholstery, power-adjustable front seats, keyless entry, and push-button start.

New in 2025 is the inclusion of LED headlights, and Bluetooth and digital keys.

However, stepping up to the Premium adds a panoramic sunroof, powered tailgate, roof rails, power-folding side mirrors, heated front seats, music-syncing interior ambient lighting, wireless smartphone charger, and the Surf Blue exterior colour option.

It also replaces the Essential's 12.8-inch rotating infotainment touchscreen with a larger 15.6-inch unit that has wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto.

In terms of safety, the 2025 Atto 3 features forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking (AEB), blind-spot detection, lane departure warning, lane-keep assist, rear cross-traffic alert, adaptive cruise control, and more.
