Ironman 4×4-backed off-road accessories to launch at the same time as the BYD Shark 6 ute to give adventurous buyers more options, but there’s more to come.

The incoming 2025 BYD Shark 6 plug-in hybrid ute will land in Australia backed by Ironman 4×4 off-road accessories, but one component will be missing at launch.

Speaking to Drive at the drive of the pre-production Shark 6 ute, an Ironman 4×4 Australia spokesperson explained that a compatible winch is still under development and won't be ready for the new model's market launch later this week.

He said the high-voltage electrical components in the Shark 6 plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) were the hurdle to overcome, as most winches need only a 12-volt battery.

However, development of the winch is ongoing, and it is expected Ironman 4×4 will release the accessory soon after launch as it readies the recovery device for mass-market consumption.

Outside the winch, a full array of accessories will be offered, including two versions of a bullbar, tonneau covers, lifted suspension, new wheels and off-road tyres, and sports bars.

BYD and Ironman 4×4 have confirmed each launch accessory will start "from under $200", but full pricing is yet to be revealed.

For context, Ironman 4×4 is asking at least $2000 for a bullbar for the latest 2024 Ford Ranger, while a full-glass raid canopy will set buyers back around $5000 in the same model.

However, BYD is offering a $500 credit towards Shark 6 accessories for the first 2000 customers who order its new ute, incentivising early adopters.

When speaking to Drive, the Ironman 4×4 spokesperson said developing accessories for Australia's first plug-in hybrid ute – aside from the winch – is no different from working on the Ford Ranger, Toyota HiLux, GWM Ute, Nissan Patrol, and other models it offers accessories for.

With suspension, tyre, and underbody protection changes, most of the hardpoints are similar, said the spokesperson, with the added weight of the battery and electric motors a factor, but not an obstacle.

BYD also has plans to offer a flagship version of its Shark 6 ute, though whether it turns into a full-fledged performance model like the Ford Ranger Raptor, or it opts for an accessorised version akin to the Nissan Navara Pro-4X Warrior, Isuzu D-Max Blade, and Toyota HiLux Rogue is still unclear.

If the latter, BYD could easily bundle a number of Ironman 4×4 accessories to create a more hardcore Shark 6.
