Mazda has unveiled substantial changes for the latest BT-50 ute – following in the tyre tracks of its Isuzu D-Max sibling – including a fresh face, new technology, and safety enhancements, due on local roads in 2025.

The facelifted 2025 Mazda BT-50 has been unveiled – headlined by styling updates inside and out, upgraded safety systems, and a new infotainment screen – ahead of the first Australian arrivals due early next year.

The updates represent Mazda's version of the tweaks introduced to the ute’s Isuzu D-Max twin-under-the-skin earlier this year, though the major differences between the two dual-cabs revolve around the BT-50's styling and interior appointments.

The BT-50 has been updated four times since the third-generation model was introduced in 2020. However, this round of updates is the most comprehensive of all.

Australian showroom arrivals are due to commence in the first quarter of 2025 (January to March), with prices to be announced closer to launch.

Up front, the facelifted BT-50 has adopted a refreshed grille, a restyled lower splitter, and a new set of slim headlights with CX-5-esque LED daytime running lights.

The flagship BT-50 SP variant gets a unique red stripe in the grille, like the smaller Mazda 2 hatchback.

No changes have been made to the BT-50's side profile, though new-design alloy wheels will be fitted to the 2025 BT-50.

Updates to the rear of the vehicle include new ridged indentations in the rear tailgate, and a fresh set of tail-lights.

Australia is the most important market for the BT-50 globally and, much like the debut of the TF-generation BT-50 in 2020, this latest facelift was revealed locally.

Three new colours are available within the 2025 BT-50 range: Red Earth, Geode White, and Sailing Blue metallics.

Inside, the new BT-50 is the beneficiary of updates to its infotainment screen and the digital instrument cluster, as well as improvements to select materials.

Mirroring the latest D-Max, the 2025 BT-50 gains new software for its infotainment screen, which retains a display size of up to 9.0 inches on top-spec variants.

The new software now incorporates wireless Android Auto – in addition to just wireless Apple CarPlay previously – and includes new vehicle status and settings menus.

There are now USB-C charging ports, as well as physical dials for the volume and radio tuning adjustments – but touch-sensitive buttons replace hard keys for other key infotainment functions.

A 7.0-inch multi-function display sits within the instrument cluster between two physical gauges to display critical driving information such as the speedometer, fuel data, and tachometer.

The main infotainment display can now show real-time tilt and steering angles, the tyre pressure monitoring status, diff lock status, and Rough Terrain Mode graphics.

Less obvious, but equally important, are changes to the BT-50's safety systems.

New stereo cameras – used by the autonomous emergency braking system, among other technologies – allow for a wider-angle detection area than before, and the rear-view camera lens is coated in a water-resistant film for a clearer view during wet weather.

New active safety measures include stop-and-go traffic jam assistance for the adaptive cruise control, and intelligent speed limit assist in concert with the traffic sign recognition.

The rear cross-traffic system alert system can now brake for obstacles, rather than just warning the driver of their presence, while the lane-keep assistance system now detects road edges without lane markings.

The BT-50's autonomous emergency braking system has been updated to include motorcycle detection, as well as pedestrian detection for the intersection aspect of AEB.

Changes to materials inside the cabin now see leather-trimmed seats in black, and terracotta synthetic leather-look 'Maztex' with synthetic suede inserts on flagship model grades.

Elsewhere, the gloss black trims around the centre console have been replaced with matte black plastics.

No pricing has been announced as yet, with this information to be held until closer to the car's local launch.

Full details of the 2025 Mazda BT-50 are expected early next year, before the model's local launch in the first quarter of 2025 (January to March inclusive).
