BYD launches driver-assistance tech with DeepSeek AI integration, including for its cheapest models

Electric and hybrid car specialist BYD has detailed its new ‘God’s Eye’ driver-assistance technology, which includes support for the DeepSeek artificial intelligence model.

BYD has introduced its newest generation advanced driver-assistance system (ADAS) in China – including on its cheapest models – with artificial intelligence integration for some vehicles to support hands-free semi-autonomous driving.

The carmaker’s website reveals the ‘God’s Eye’ system has been added to Chinese-market versions of the Dolphin, Seal, Sealion 6 and Sealion 7 – among other models – but not the Atto 3, while the Shark 6 ute isn’t sold in China.

It has also been added to versions of the BYD Seagull – called Dolphin Mini outside of China – starting from 78,800 yuan ($AU17,000), making it one of the cheapest vehicles in China with driver-assistance technology like autonomous emergency braking (AEB) and lane-keep assist as standard.

Active safety features have now been made standard across all BYD vehicles fitted with the latest ‘God’s Eye’ system in China, rather than certain features – such as blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert – being reserved for higher-spec variants.

CarNewsChina reports BYD will offer its ‘God’s Eye’ ADAS in three variants: the less-advanced Type C for most BYD vehicles, the mid-range Type B for flagship BYD models, along with Denza vehicles, and the most-advanced Type A for Yangwang vehicles.

Also marketed as ‘DiPilot 100’, the God’s Eye Type C system includes 12 cameras covering the front, side and rear of the vehicle, five millimetre-wave radars, and 12 ultrasonic radars.

God’s Eye Type B – or ‘DiPilot 300’ – adds a forward-facing Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR) sensor and 300 Tera Operations Per Second (TOPS) of peak computing power, up from 100 in Type C, while God’s Eye Type A – or ‘DiPilot 600’ – adds two additional LiDAR sensors and 600 TOPS of peak computing power.

All vehicles with the God’s Eye driver-assist system will be connected to BYD’s ‘Xuanji’ connected-car architecture with 5G network connectivity, which will also integrate with the DeepSeek R1 artificial intelligence model.

Type A and Type B versions of the system will support hands-free driving in city and highway environments when the navigation is set, while the Type C edition only supports semi-autonomous highway driving at launch, with city-driving support expected in a future over-the-air software update.

The introduction of BYD’s updated driver-assist technology coincides with minor updates for some of its vehicles in China, including the Seagull micro hatch and Dolphin small hatch – the latter of which is available in Australia as the nation’s cheapest electric vehicle at $29,990 before on-road costs.

Revisions for the 2025 Dolphin in China – sold as the ‘Intelligent Driving Edition’ to differentiate it from the outgoing model – include a tweaked front and rear design with new headlights and tail-lights, a red BYD rear badge, and a revised steering wheel.

It also receives a larger 8.8-inch digital instrument cluster – up from five inches – updated physical controls, a relocated 50-watt wireless phone charger, LED ambient lighting, and a cooled glovebox, along with a new 130kW/290Nm electric motor for mid-range variants.

Australian arrival timing for the facelifted 2025 BYD Dolphin – along with updated driver-assistance technology for the Seal, Sealion 6 and Sealion 7 – has not been confirmed, with the changes currently limited to the Chinese market.
