BYD Sealion 6 suspension changes confirmed

New versions of the BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid SUV have received suspension revisions for the Australian market.
A suspension change for the BYD Sealion 6 plug-in hybrid family SUV is imminent for Australia.
David Smitherman – the chief executive officer of BYD distributor EVDirect – told Drive the 2025 model has received changes to its suspension over earlier 2024 examples to deliver what’s understood to be a “firmer” feel.
The Sealion 6 update is believed to be in response to local customer and media feedback over its composure at higher speeds – however the changes will only apply to newly-built vehicles, with no retrofit available for existing 2024 models on Australian roads.
“We have [BYD] engineers here all the time… certainly all Australian feedback is well received,” Smitherman said.
The executive could not comment on what has been changed over earlier versions.
Deliveries of Model Year 2025 examples of the Sealion 6 are due to commence in Australia in March.
In a launch review of the 2024 BYD Sealion 6 Dynamic last June, Drive journalist Alex Misoyannis said: “The suspension is tuned to be soft, which means potholes and speed bumps are absorbed without sending a sharp jolt through the cabin.

“However, it comes at the cost of the BYD's composure at higher speeds – and on country roads.
“There is a lot of body roll – even for a family SUV not designed to be a sports car – and the suspension can be flustered by rough country roads, as the body wallows over undulations, and does not inspire the driver's confidence in the Sealion 6's roadholding abilities.”
A Model Year 2025 update was confirmed for the BYD Sealion 6 last month with a more affordable Essential entry-level variant, which replaces the Dynamic with a reduced list of standard equipment.

The Premium has gained optional Michelin tyres to replace the standard-fit Giti items – while the Azure Blue exterior paint colour has been deleted across the line-up.
The BYD Sealion 6 was Australia’s best-selling plug-in hybrid vehicle in 2024 with 6198 deliveries, 72 sales ahead of the Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (6126).
It launched in Australia in mid-2024, with close to 12,000 deliveries forecast in 2025 if the Sealion 6 maintains its current selling rate.
