Chery Hunting Wild concept hints at solid-state battery solution to most electric car shortcomings

An electric wagon capable of driving from Sydney to Adelaide without stopping, supercar-like performance, autonomous driving technology, and the ability to recharge in minutes? Chery’s Hunting Wild concept promises it’s all just around the corner.
Images of an electric Chery concept car have been released ahead of the vehicle’s public debut at the Guangzhou motor show this weekend.
Fitted with a solid-state battery, Chery says the Hunting Wild electric wagon is capable of hitting 100km/h from a standstill in just three seconds and a top speed of 260km/h, while also offering a driving range of up to 1500 kilometres, according to Autohome.
Solid-state batteries are widely touted as being the next big thing in the automotive industry, offering far greater energy density, faster energy displacement, and potential recharge times as low as 15 minutes.
The concept appears to have been created under the Fulwin nameplate – a sub-brand of Chery previously used on plug-in hybrid models.

While it’s not known whether the Chery concept is a true driving car or simply a glimpse of what the future could hold, the Chinese car maker says the Hunting Wild wagon features an 800-volt platform and four-wheel steering with steer-by-wire.
It’s also said to be fitted with air suspension, a colour-changing skylight, and Level Three autonomous driving technology.
Exact performance numbers haven’t been revealed at this stage, though Chery says the vehicle uses a 30,000rpm electric motor, suggesting it may be two-wheel drive.
Inside, the 15.6-inch infotainment screen is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chip – arguably the most advanced automotive processor for infotainment duties, allowing the integration of several cabin screens in 4K definition and a 4K digital instrument cluster.

The chip can also manage multiple exterior cameras, zoned audio, 5G mobile technology with Cellular Vehicle-to-Everything (C-V2X), artificial intelligence (AI) support, safety systems including drowsiness detection, and more.
The Chery specifically features a 23-speaker audio system and an AI voice assistant, along with a fold-flat passenger seat and tilt-adjust rear seats.
The exterior could also be a look at the brand’s new design direction, with subdued lines and a clean silhouette, LED daytime-running lights, hidden headlights, and LED tail-lights.
The Chery Hunting Wild concept will go on display at the Guangzhou motor show in China, with doors opening on 15 November 2024.
