Ferrari F40 being built by YouTuber Mike Burroughs is more authentic than you may think

The popular YouTuber is currently building a custom F40 with an engine from an 812 Superfast, a bespoke tube chassis, and genuine bodywork.
The Ferrari F40 is one of the most legendary cars ever created – an iconic, rare, and extraordinarily expensive masterpiece – but one YouTuber believes he can make it even better.

A passionate car enthusiast, the digital creator showcases intricate builds on his channel, guiding viewers through the entire journey from start to finish.
It took Mike nine months to track down and acquire the F40 body panels. The components needed to make the front half a genuine F40 were sourced from a shop in the United Kingdom, and consisted of brand-new old stock panels.
The floor and rear half pieces were pre-owned, with the rear underbody coming from an LM. In fact, it even logged laps in the 1994 Paris 1000 endurance race.
Determined not to replicate Ferrari’s design, Mike declared he would be “doing something much better.” To that end, the DIY chassis is a custom tube chassis, crafted using an original F40 chassis CAD model as a reference.
Mike traveled to Frankfurt, Germany, to acquire the engine – a genuine Ferrari V12 sourced from an 812 Superfast. Costing around AU$150,000 dollars, the naturally aspirated 6.5-litre boasts 800 horsepower at 9000rpm, or 588kW.
Mike explained that tuning the engine’s direct injection system would be an expensive and time-intensive endeavor. As a result, he opted for port injection instead – a choice that sparked plenty of discussion among commenters.
Another potentially controversial decision was replacing the iconic gated shifter with a fully sequential manual gearbox.
This example will be finished in the iconic Rosso Corsa, though it won’t feature the signature pop-up headlights.
As for the interior, Burroughs revealed that it will be "just as gnarly" as the rest of the car.
Although this F40 features extreme racing elements, Mike clarifies that it will be driven on the street, rather than being a dedicated race car.
Despite this car not being an original F40 produced by Ferrari, the content creator hopes the exotic Italian brand will respect his build. However, historically, Ferrari has been very strict about what can and can't be done with their vehicles.
The cost breakdown of the build hasn’t been revealed, however, Mike revealed in the first episode that he sold his E28 and E30 BMWs, and Model A Ford to assist with the project, later stating it will "cost a lot and then some."
Mike is yet to reveal exactly how long the project will take, but he did mention that it won’t be finished within two years.
