Australian company Lovells has launched a locally designed, engineered and made 4000kg braked towing package for the Ford Ranger.
Lovells Automotive Systems has launched an Australian-made suspension package for the Ford Ranger – the country's best-selling ute – increasing its braked towing capacity to 4000kg.
The package is compatible with Ford Ranger V6 diesels made from 2022 and onwards in dual-cab and dual-cab cab chassis body styles and comes well ahead of the Ford Ranger Super Duty due in local showrooms in 2026.
The Ranger Super Duty will offer 4500kg towing – up from the standard Ranger's current best of 3500kg, matched by rivals inducing the Toyota HiLux and Isuzu D-Max – the tow rating of the larger Ford F-150.
The 2026 Ranger Super Duty will bring body-strengthening modifications upping its GVM (Gross Vehicle Mass) to 4500kg and its GCM (Gross Combined Mass) to 8000kg.
Currently in Ford Australia showrooms, the highest standard Ranger GVM is 3350kg with a 6400kg GCM, achieved by the Wildtrak and Platinum versions.
Available now, Lovells’ braked towing upgrade can only be added to Rangers already fitted with its existing 3700kg GVM upgrade kit, which includes heavy duty springs, gas-filled shock absorbers and bushes.
According to Lovells, the new package has been designed, engineered and rigorously tested in Australia to function with the Ranger's existing suite of driver assistance and towing features.
It uses a heavy-duty stainless steel tow hitch and pillar, with an extra heavy-duty tow-bar assembly designed specifically for the Ranger, with simple one-person use enabled and no tools required for operation.
The set-up also brings a weight distribution hitch kit with an anti-sway system for better stability while towing, as well as a corrosion-resistant stainless steel hand brake to handle the heavier loads while parked.
The upgrade is fully Australian Design Rule (ADR) compliant and Lovells says it takes less than two hours to install at any Lovells outlet or franchise store across Australia.
The new package is priced at $3800 plus GST, and fitment is covered by a two-year/40,000km warranty. The Ranger 3700kg GVM upgrade is priced at $5400 plus GST and fitting.
In November 2024, Lovells also launched a 3900kg GVM upgrade for the Toyota LandCruiser 79 Series.
The Australian company also opened a new state-of-the art research and development facility in South Australia in 2024, supported by dynamic testing at the state's The Bend Motorsport Park as well as its New South Wales manufacturing hub.
