The replacement to Motorclassica is running at Melbourne Showgrounds from 22 November to 24 November.

A new car event, showcasing more than 200 vehicles ranging from vintage through to modern supercars, is taking place in Melbourne this weekend.

Motors and Masterpieces, which replaces the old annual Motorclassica show, starts today and runs through to Sunday at Melbourne Showgrounds.

Held largely indoors, the event opens to the public from 10am to 5pm daily, with visitors able to see more than 200 vehicles spanning 120 years of automotive history.

Highlights include a McLaren Speedtail, a Ferrari Enzo, and the Australian public premiere of the Lamborghini Revuelto.

Across the site there will be 10 themed areas for enthusiasts to explore, with vehicles from Italy, Germany, France, the US, Australia, and Japan all featuring.

In ‘La Dolce Vita’ for example, show-goers can take in half a dozen of Italy's best-known makes, including an array of Ferrari’s and Lamborghini's finest, from the Testarossa to the Countach, Diablo and more.

Meanwhile, ‘California Dreaming’ will showcase Detroit's hero cars, including a range of highly desirable examples from Ford, Chevrolet, Buick, Chrysler and Lincoln.

For Japanese Domestic Market lovers, the ‘Tokyo Lights’ category will feature examples from Honda, Nissan, Toyota, Datsun, Prince and Mazda.

Elsewhere, 110 years of Maserati is celebrated, as well as a 1904 Fabrique Nationale motorcycle and a 1910 Willys Overlander Model 40, while representing the modern era will be the Porsche 911-based Singer DLS.

The showcase will also include special displays focusing on the 'Wheels of the Silver Screen', featuring the likes of James Bond, Magnum PI, Knight Rider, Mad Max, Bullitt, Back to the Future and more.

Beyond the vehicle displays, the event will feature a series of panel discussions on subjects such as the state of the classic car market and future of Australia's historic vehicle sector.
