Victoria Police are appealing for the public’s help to find an alleged offender accused of stealing a Holden Commodore and abandoning it on a busy route in Melbourne’s centre.
Police are hunting a man who is accused of stealing a car and dumping it on one of Melbourne's busiest road bridges before fleeing the scene.
The stolen Holden Commodore was abandoned on the Bolte Bridge, which connects Port Melbourne with Docklands over the Yarra River, after the driver allegedly collided with another vehicle.
According to Victoria Police, who are appealing for the public's help to track down the suspect, the car was travelling northbound on the Bolte at the time of the incident at around 12.10pm on 30 August.
Following the crash, the alleged offender is understood to have pulled over near the Footscray Road exit and run off on foot.
No injuries were reported as he dangerously weaved across the path of oncoming vehicles driving in both directions.
While the car was recovered shortly after, investigators are continuing to hunt the driver involved, releasing CCTV footage in the hope someone with information will come forward.
Police say the vehicle was stolen from Shirreff Street in Stawell up near Ballarat in the state's west earlier that day.
Anyone who saw the incident, has CCTV/dashcam footage or information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or submit a confidential report at www.crimestoppersvic.com.au
