This photo of a Mazda CX-9 without its wheels has circulated on social media, with one Instagram user warning other drivers to remain vigilant.

A photo of a white Mazda CX-9 without its wheels has gone viral on social media, with the submitted caption warning other drivers that a thief stole all four wheels from the SUV.

The image was submitted to 3AW journalist Jacqui Felgate, who posted it to her Instagram account – with over 300,000 followers – on 15 October 2024.

The unnamed source stated, "Be careful guys, today when arrived back to Cranbourne station [sic], a lady found her car tyres all stolen!! This was in Cranbourne Station Car Park, which is fully monitored by cameras."

One Instagram user claimed they experienced a similar event not too long ago, with the commenter posting, "Mine was broken into exact same spot 1 week ago [sic]. Brand new car."

Various Instagram users said the south-eastern suburb – located approximately 43km from Melbourne – was a hotspot for offenders, with some commenters labelling the area "Crime-bourne".

Victoria Police is yet to make a statement regarding the incident.

This news comes as car thefts in Victoria have surged by 24 per cent in one year, with the state recording 23,248 offences – up from 18,680 – from June 2023 to June 2024.

"Victoria's four fastest growing crimes are all related to opportunistic offending – theft from motor vehicle, retail theft, motor vehicle theft, and theft of other items such as petrol," Acting Deputy Commissioner Regional Operations, Chris Gilbert, said in a media statement.
