The Ford Ranger remained Australia's best-selling car for the second year running, but the results for each state and territory suggest it was a closer race than the national figures show.

In 2024, amid another record year for new-car sales, the Ford Ranger was again the most popular vehicle in Australia, beating the Toyota RAV4 and Toyota HiLux.

However, the individual sales results for each state and territory reveal differences in buyer interests, with the sales in one state making the difference to Ford's ute rising to the top of the charts.

Drive can reveal the Top 10 best-selling cars in each state and territory in 2024 from additional data supplied by the Federal Chamber of Automotive Industries (FCAI) – combined with Tesla and Polestar sales figures from the Electric Vehicle Council.
