The renovation work at the Monza Circuit in preparation for the 2024 Formula 1 Italian Grand Prix seems to be a real race against time. About three months before the race weekend, workers continue to toil to ensure everything is ready in time.

There are many modifications to be made. From new underpasses to the grandstands, the circuit that will host the Formula 1 Circus next September will be quite different from what we are used to. As repeatedly emphasized by Stefano Domenicali himself, these works are crucial to ensure that the event in Italy remains part of the future Formula 1 calendar.

According to the former Ferrari Team Principal, the coexistence with Imola is unlikely to be possible in the coming years given the numerous requests to join the calendar that keep coming in. For this reason, both Italian circuits will have to meet all the requirements set by Liberty Media in recent months.

Is the first chicane changing?
Meanwhile, observing some photos collected by F1inGenerale, some changes to the track can already be seen. The first chicane, one of the main overtaking points on the entire track, appears to be slightly different from the past.

From what the Italian website has learned, and as visible from the photo, the width of the asphalted surface is slightly wider than in previous seasons. This choice could be due to the desire to reduce the risk of incidents at the first braking point. Typically, the first chicane is the site of contacts at the start, with drivers trying to make the most of the long straight that separates the start from the chicane.

This small modification will not change the layout of the Monza circuit.
