It will be Aston Martin

A few weeks ago, Aston Martin reached a multi-year agreement with Adrian Newey for a collaboration, but without getting the signature of the brilliant British designer on paper. Knowing Newey, this last detail kept the prestigious British brand from sleeping soundly. Until the very end, the former technical director was torn between Aston Martin, a definitive retirement, or the wild idea of starting an adventure from scratch by completely rebuilding a team (with Williams and Alpine expressing interest in this regard).

Ferrari had withdrawn from the contenders some time ago, deciding not to meet all of Newey’s demands—despite the fact that he had placed the Prancing Horse at the top of his preferences—in order to preserve the current working group and adhere to one of its core principles: no one can be bigger than the Scuderia. And with Newey, it was no secret that there was a risk of him being seen as the “savior of the team,” the man to whom future victories could be attributed.

Imminent Announcement

Aston Martin, on the other hand, will welcome him as an absolute genius, the cherry on top of a project that has spared no expense in strengthening its technical staff.

The Daily Mail, with a report by Jonathan McEvoy, explained that Lawrence Stroll skillfully exploited Ferrari’s doubts, leading Newey to visit the futuristic factory in Silverstone last June.

The potential of the team reportedly left the English engineer astonished, and in the following weeks, he was convinced to restart his Formula 1 adventure once again from his beloved England. Starting from Friday, September 6, Adrian Newey will be contractually free to announce his future, and the British newspaper mentions that an announcement and official presentation are expected “next week.” The agreement will be multi-year, with a salary of 20 million pounds per year, approximately 26 million dollars (23 million euros). Newey will observe a gardening leave period and will be able to work with the new team after the first quarter of 2025.

And Ferrari? The future technical director will be revealed in the coming days (it will not be Mike Elliott). The Prancing Horse has chosen to build the Scuderia differently, as recently reiterated by team principal Frederic Vasseur in a recent interview for the Italian daily newspaper Corriere della Sera: “It is not the sum of talents that generates performance but the right combination of factors. PSG has always signed the best players, yet they have never won the Champions League. We, on the other hand, are on the right track.” – the French manager pointed out.
