In a recent interview for RTBF, the public service broadcaster delivering radio and television services to the French-speaking Community of Belgium, Scuderia Ferrari Spanish driver Carlos Sainz shared his thoughts on his time alongside the Maranello team and his future more to Williams:

About regrets in Ferrari

“No regrets. I’ve always tried my best. I’ve tried to maximize the opportunity of being a Ferrari driver. My only regret maybe is the beginning of 2022. I was coming from a very strong end of 2021 with a podium. And I had a very difficult first 6, 7 races until I understood the tricks that I had to do with the driving and the strange things that I had to do that didn’t come natural to me. And then, maybe I potentially lost the opportunity to win 1 or 2 races, but, at the same time, I gave my absolute best. It’s not like I was not trying, and it was just probably a bit circumstantial that the 22 cars and even the 23, 24 are cars that are not exactly the way I would like them to drive, and I have to think a lot while driving, but I have to adapt.”

About choosing Williams

“The key factor was for me the the the trend that they’re following. It reminds me a lot about the McLaren days when McLaren started to go in a positive trend. Obviously, the investment that I see behind the team, clear ideas. And even if people might think I’m taking a step backwards, which, yes, I don’t have any other choice than to take that little step backwards, It’s a team that motivates me a lot, a challenge that I I’ve always enjoyed, trying to improve a team. And, when you look at McLaren and Ferrari, how they were when I arrived, how they are when I left, it’s a challenge that I enjoy, and I’m gonna give it my absolute best.”

About his positive attitude

“I think it’s my philosophy and my way of going about things. You never know what the future holds for you. Realistically speaking, there’s nothing wrong between Ferrari and me. I think it was circumstantial what happened at the beginning of the year, and now I’m totally focused in trying to finish well my career in Ferrari. You know? And, the future, you never know what can happen.”
