Here we are: the 2025 Formula 1 season is finally set to begin, and the first statements come from Carlos Sainz, who has kind words for Ferrari and Charles Leclerc.

During the Melbourne press conference, on the eve of the first race weekend in Australia, the Williams driver responded to a question about his former teammate. Also present in the same session were Lewis Hamilton and Kimi Antonelli.

“Inspiration, you say? I think Charles has done a great job representing Ferrari's colors, the Ferrari brand over the last… how many years? Six or seven of his career,” Carlos Sainz said when asked if his former Maranello teammate embodies the ideal Ferrari driver.

“I don't think anyone needs to talk about his talent and speed—everyone knows that. In terms of how he behaves, how he treats everyone in the team, how he carries the Ferrari brand worldwide, I think he's doing an incredible job. He is part of the growth Ferrari has seen recently. I believe Ferrari also has in him a great ambassador. Good for him. Well done. I think over the years, he has grown both as a driver and as a person,” he continued.

When he left Ferrari, the Spaniard was convinced that the Maranello team was ready to fight for the title, just like Charles Leclerc: “He is probably at one of the sweetest points of his career. He feels mature, comfortable, and probably ready to win. So let's see what [Ferrari] can achieve here,” the Spanish driver concluded.

Ferrari did not impress much in Bahrain, and some have already labeled it the fourth-best team on the grid. However, the track will have the final say.

The first two free practice sessions in Melbourne are set for Friday, March 14. For European fans, it will mean an early morning wake-up call; in this article, you can check the exact schedule for the Australian GP.
