Carlos Sainz Sr grateful: "Driving a Ferrari F1 in Fiorano is something unique and very special"
Carlos Sainz's journey with Ferrari is nearing its end, with the Spaniard set to officially become a Williams driver in less than two weeks. Before bidding farewell to the Scuderia, however, Ferrari decided to give the Spanish driver a special send-off with a day behind the wheel of the F1-75, the car with which he secured his first career victory in 2022 at the British Grand Prix in Silverstone. The soon-to-be former Ferrari driver wasn't alone, as his father was also granted the chance to join him for one last drive with the Prancing Horse emblem on their chests.
The first to take to the track at Fiorano, getting acquainted with a Formula 1 car and the circuit, was Sainz Sr. Connected via radio to the two-time World Rally Champion was Carlos Jr., still in civilian clothes but moments away from donning the red suit for the last time. The image of the Sainz family, under the watchful eyes of a few fans gathered around the Fiorano circuit, bidding farewell to the men and women of the Ferrari Racing Division after four seasons is unforgettable: father and son driving two Ferraris before turning off the engines for the final time in 2024.
At the end of such a special day, Carlos Sainz Sr wanted to thank the Maranello team for this unique opportunity, an event which was specifically requested by Ferrari team principal Frederic Vasseur:
“I don’t want to let another second pass without thanking the entire Ferrari family for the unforgettable day. For someone with a huge passion for the world of Motorsport, driving a Ferrari Formula 1 in Fiorano is something unique and very special, but even more so if it is with the one that Carlos won his first race, I will never forget this day. Thank you!” – was the message posted by Carlos Sainz Sr.
