Scuderia Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc is making the most of his time off during the off-season. The Monegasque driver has been sharing glimpses of his holiday in Mexico, where he’s been enjoying the company of his brothers, his partner Alexandra Saint Mleux, and, of course, their beloved dog, Leo. As the 2024 Formula 1 campaign came to a close, Charles Leclerc also took the opportunity to address a topic that has been a growing concern among drivers: the need for a limit on the number of race weekends in a season.
Charles Leclerc believes that while the calendar, which spans 24 races, might seem daunting, it is not necessarily the sheer number of races that poses the greatest challenge to drivers in terms of physical endurance. Instead, he emphasized the importance of balancing the intensity of the season with the mental and physical well-being of the competitors.
“I still think 24 is the maximum. Personally, I'm not that tired. Drivers are traveling in the best possible conditions. We are staying in the best possible conditions. We are doing everything. We’ve got a team for recovery. We’ve got lots of things put around for us to be 100% from the first race to the last race, things a lot more difficult for the members of the team and this has to be kept in mind by F1,” – the Ferrari man pointed out.
At the same time, Charles Leclerc pinpoints one other aspect for which 24 F1 weekends should be considered the limit. “Where I struggle most is more about the private life, the balance between the private life and the professional life. And of course, the private life always becomes less and less, more races you add. On the other hand, I’m also in a position that I can bring my family to races and live from my passion, so I cannot complain, but I still feel like 24 is probably the maximum that is reasonable.”
