Charles Leclerc reflects on the 2024 F1 season
After a year and a half without victories, in the 2024 Formula 1 season, Charles Leclerc managed to hear the Monegasque anthem three times, with wins in Monaco, Monza, and Austin. However, the 27-year-old from the Principality was unable to compete for the drivers’ championship, which was won by Max Verstappen. Charles Leclerc hopes to bounce back in 2025, supported by his contract renewal that ties him to Maranello until 2029.
In an interview with French nationwide daily newspaper devoted to sport, Charles Leclerc summarized his season: “This year, I felt as calm as in previous years, but perhaps I’ve grown and matured a bit. I was able to stay composed and avoid creating big problems. In the past, I often lost opportunities because I was too eager to do well. This year, I don’t recall a race with a major mistake on my part.” – the Monegasque driver pointed out.
Praise for Fred Vasseur
For Charles Leclerc, Ferrari’s solid season, which saw the team recover from particularly challenging moments, is largely credited to team principal Frederic Vasseur: “Fred and I have known each other for many years. He has always helped me enormously, and I’ve always said that he was fundamental in changing Ferrari’s mindset. If today we are in this position, it is mainly thanks to him and the shift in mentality he brought to the Scuderia. Fred’s strength lies in taking a step back to avoid being overwhelmed by emotions, which is crucial in this Italian team where emotions often run high. He always has the right words to reassure or motivate the team, whether things are going well or not,” concluded the Monegasque in his interview with Frederic Ferret.
