Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull, shared his thoughts on Lewis Hamilton’s transition to Ferrari and his departure from Mercedes. He noted that the move was not only beneficial for the driver but also for Formula 1 as a whole.

Christian Horner also pointed out that the change was likely influenced by a “stagnant” relationship between Lewis Hamilton and Mercedes, which probably pushed him to seek a change.

“Clearly, he felt the need to change, and from the outside, it seemed like the relationship between Lewis and Mercedes had become a bit stale,” Christian Horner said in a recent interview for RacingNews365. The team principal believes this move could provide Lewis Hamilton with the renewed motivation he needs to excel.

“Age is just a number,” Christian Horner is on Lewis Hamilton’s side.
While Lewis Hamilton will make his debut with Ferrari at the Australian Grand Prix, the first race of the 2025 F1 calendar, Horner emphasized the importance of a good start, especially considering that Ferrari had a competitive car toward the end of the previous season.

“If Lewis gets off to a good start, it could become a very favorable situation for Ferrari,” he added. However, he also noted that Hamilton faces a significant challenge, as he will have to compete alongside Charles Leclerc, a fast and experienced teammate who knows the team’s dynamics well.

At 40 years old, Lewis Hamilton joins Fernando Alonso as one of only nine drivers in F1 history to continue racing after turning 40. Many have already questioned whether he can still perform at his highest level. However, Horner disagrees, stating that age is not an obstacle in motorsport.

“If you look at Fernando Alonso, he still seems to have several years of career ahead of him,” Christian Horner points out. “You are judged by how you perform, not by how old you are. Age is just a number, and Hamilton will also be judged by what he does on the track.” That is how the Red Bull team principal concluded.
