Eddie Jordan lashes out at DRS: "A stupid rule that skews the races"

The movable wing in Formula 1
Introduced in 2011 after the dramatic conclusion to the 2010 season, with Fernando Alonso painfully stuck behind Vitaly Petrov's Renault, DRS has been one of the most debated and controversial technological innovations in F1 history. On one hand, it is undeniable that the device, which reduces drag in straights, has increased the number of overtakes during races. However, at the same time, it is often clear that sometimes overtaking has become too easy due to the “artificial” advantage of the movable wing. In short, it is a device that divides fans and even professionals: in one of the latest episodes of his podcast, Eddie Jordan strongly criticized DRS.
Eddie Jordan against DRS
"We recently witnessed – said the former team principal of Jordan (who recently publicly announced he had been battling an aggressive cancer) on an episode of Formula for Success, the podcast he co-hosts with David Coulthard – the Brazilian GP in wet conditions and, of course, without DRS, it was a fantastic race. Personally, I believe that very often DRS is overly effective in allowing overtakes. In the past, there was a real expectation that overtaking could happen and that there would be an opportunity to do it. So I would definitely be in favor of reducing the effect of the movable wing." – he pointed out.
This effect will be removed by the F1 2026 regulations, which will be based on a different approach to active aerodynamics.
"Everything that is artificial, everything that is fake, everything that is put in place of the real, dramatic, honest, and fair story that unfolds – Eddie Jordan continued, still referring to the effect of DRS – in my opinion is fake. DRS is fundamentally fake. It’s fake, it's like having a boxer with one hand tied behind his back at a certain moment. It’s an unfair advantage because he doesn’t have all the tools to defend himself. I believe that if a way isn’t found to use it in a more fair and correct manner, a driver shouldn’t be punished by being forced to give up a position just because of a stupid rule like DRS. I'm sorry, I'll be old-fashioned, but I'm not in favor of it." – he concluded.
