Aston Martin-Cardile: what’s happening

On Monday, March 3, Adrian Newey will officially start working at Aston Martin with the title of “managing technical partner.” According to the plans of owner Lawrence Stroll, on that date, Enrico Cardile was also supposed to start as “chief technical officer,” but things haven’t developed in that direction. In fact, Ferrari and Aston Martin are engaged in a full legal battle, and the arrival of the engineer from Arezzo could be delayed by over four months.

No agreement As early as last December, AutoRacer’s colleagues spoke about some bureaucratic issues still to be resolved and noted in recent days that Enrico Cardile’s arrival at Stroll’s side had become “a real case,” with the start date “still uncertain.” An update on the situation came from today's edition of Corriere dello Sport, which mentions lawyers in action between Ferrari and Aston Martin.

“It seems that Ferrari is trying – and the conditional is necessary – to extend the inactivity period of the Arezzo engineer as much as possible,” writes Fulvio Solms, who continues: “The gardening agreement is in place, but in the last month, everything has returned to square one. We understand that Enrico Cardile’s arrival alongside Newey is unlikely before July 17, a year after Ferrari announced his departure.” The Roman daily emphasizes how Lawrence Stroll is “furious” because “a crucial figure” has been “blocked at a similarly crucial moment.” Hence the reminder that lawyers are “working on the delicate case, after a mediation had been reached. This initial balance has now been broken for new reasons that have arisen recently.”

This decision seems to have enraged Lawrence Stroll, who has immediately put his lawyers to work in an attempt to find a solution. An eventual arrival of Enrico Cardile in the summer, in fact, would make his work on the 2026 car very complicated, with Newey having to start working “alone.”
