Benedetto Vigna has commented on the start of Ferrari’s 2024 Formula 1 season, with the Maranello team closely trailing Red Bull in the constructors’ standings after the first four races.

Although only four races have passed since the start of the championship, it’s already possible to take stock at Ferrari. After extensive work over the winter, the Maranello technicians have brought to life the SF24, a car initially criticized for its less “extreme” design compared to the RB20 concept, unveiled last February 15 amid the general turmoil related to the Christian Horner case.

Despite the significant difference in performance, the 78th car from the prancing horse has proven itself on the track, already achieving a victory and four podiums, with Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz consistently showing they are the second force, just behind the Red Bull duo.

The satisfaction with a project that started well and seems to be moving in the right direction in terms of development is also evident on the face of Benedetto Vigna, who, after last year’s outburst about the SF23 (which turned out to be a total fiasco), commented on the prancing horse’s start to the 2024 championship in an interview with La Repubblica.

“This year we started better than last year, but there is still work to do and there always will be,” said the Italian manager, who was appointed CEO of Ferrari in June 2021, replacing Louis Camilleri.

“The world of competition is like the life of a person sped up to the maximum. Things can change quickly, from doing well to poorly. Stasis does not exist, everything flows, everything is fast. This concept also applies to business. We at Ferrari are doing this.”

“When the top of a company is detached from reality, when it’s not in the business but on the business, things don’t work at their best. You have to play it close, especially when the seas are stormy as in this decade, keep a low center of gravity, just like the Ferraris, so the organization is successful.”

“On the track, you win because you are faster than the others, not by blocking the competitor. We at Ferrari know this well. If the one closest to you is faster, don’t waste time stopping them. Run faster. That’s the first lesson.”

After the fantastic one-two finish in Melbourne and another podium achieved by Carlos Sainz in Japan, Ferrari heads to China with the aim of once again challenging the supremacy of Max Verstappen.

Updates will only arrive starting from Imola, but the Shanghai circuit should particularly suit the characteristics of the SF24, which has shown enviable tire management during races, despite some issues in bringing the tires up to temperature, especially in qualifying.
